After birth, a new chapter begins for the person who gave birth, the baby, and the entire family. The postpartum period involves significant physical, emotional, and family changes that require time, information, and support.

Postpartum Midwifery Care in Puerto Rico

Postpartum care is a continuation of the support that begins during pregnancy and birth. It is not limited to physical recovery; it also provides a space to ask questions, receive support with infant feeding, navigate emotional changes, and receive practical guidance for everyday care.

Every family experiences the postpartum period differently. Our care adapts to the needs that may arise during the first weeks after birth, providing time to talk, learn, and make informed decisions.

What Does Postpartum Care Include?

Each postpartum visit is tailored to the recovery of the person who gave birth, the baby’s needs, and the family’s concerns. Depending on each situation, care may include:

Physical Recovery

Monitoring recovery after birth, guidance on self-care, rest, and nutrition, as well as education about normal postpartum changes and signs that require medical attention.

Emotional Well-Being

The postpartum period also involves emotional changes and an adjustment to a new stage of life. Visits provide a private space to talk about these experiences, address concerns, and recognize when additional support may be needed.

Breastfeeding and Newborn Feeding

Every breastfeeding experience is different. During visits, we provide practical guidance to support breastfeeding, improve comfort during feeds, and address questions that may arise.

When appropriate, this support may be complemented by education about medicinal plants, herbal teas, or other botanical preparations traditionally used during the postpartum period, always taking into consideration individual needs and the safety of both mother and baby.

Newborn Care

We provide guidance on basic care during the first weeks of life, feeding, sleep, observing overall well-being, and recognizing signs that require evaluation by a healthcare professional.

Each postpartum visit is tailored to the recovery of the person who gave birth, the baby’s needs, and the family’s concerns. Depending on each situation, care may include:

Education for the Whole Family

The arrival of a baby transforms family dynamics. In addition to supporting the person who gave birth, we also provide education for partners, family members, and other caregivers who are part of the support network. Understanding how to support this process can contribute to a smoother recovery and help the whole family adjust to this new stage.

Every family experiences the postpartum period differently. If you have questions about a specific aspect of your recovery, your baby’s feeding, or adjusting to this new stage, you can discuss them during your visits. Care is tailored to the individual needs of each family.

When Does Postpartum Care Begin?

Postpartum care begins immediately after birth and may continue throughout the first few weeks, depending on each family’s needs.

During this time, it is normal for new questions to arise as daily routines change. Ongoing follow-up provides an opportunity to address concerns as they arise and offer greater reassurance during the transition to life with a newborn.

FAQ About Postpartum Care

What Is Postpartum Care?

It is care and support after birth focused on physical and emotional recovery, as well as general support during the transition into this new stage.

How Long Does Postpartum Care Last?

The duration depends on each family’s needs and can be adjusted according to the recovery process.

Does It Include Breastfeeding Support?

Yes. Basic guidance on breastfeeding and the initial adjustment period is provided.

Can I Receive Postpartum Care Even If I Did Not Have My Baby With Semilla Creciente?

Yes. Depending on your individual situation, you may receive postpartum care even if your pregnancy or birth was attended by another healthcare provider. During the initial consultation, we will assess your needs and determine the most appropriate type of follow-up care.

Can My Partner or a Family Member Participate in the Visits?

Yes. When the family wishes, visits can also include a partner or other caregivers. Shared education and support can make the transition into the postpartum period easier and strengthen the family’s support network.

What Happens If a Concern Arises During My Recovery?

If we identify a situation during follow-up that requires additional evaluation, we will guide you on the appropriate next steps and coordinate a referral to the appropriate healthcare professional when necessary.

Is Postpartum Care Only for Those Who Had a Home Birth?

No. Postpartum care can be beneficial regardless of where the birth took place. Every family can receive guidance and support tailored to their needs during this stage of recovery.
